Nick McGrath was born and raised in St. John’s. As a young man seeking employment opportunities, he moved to Labrador West in 1978 and made it his home. Over the next three decades, he established himself as a successful, restaurateur and businessman, owning and operating six businesses in Labrador West. He embraced the challenges and enjoyed many successes while working and volunteering in his community.

Mr. McGrath devoted his time and energy to numerous organizations in Labrador West over the years; holding the position of ‘President’ in many of them including: Lab West Rotary Club, Labrador West Rowing Association, Labrador West Tourism Association, Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador and Combined Councils of Labrador.

He enjoys the theatre and centre stage having been Past Present of the Carol Players Drama Club and a member of the Northern Lights Drama Club. He also holds a Black Belt in Shotokan Karate.

Mr. McGrath served for two years as a councillor with the Town of Labrador City prior to his election and subsequent appointment to Cabinet on October 28, 2011. Minister McGrath served as Minister for Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Affairs, Minister Responsible for Labrador Affairs and Minister Responsible for the Voluntary and Non-Profit Secretariat until October 19, 2012.

Mr. McGrath has a daughter Krista-Lee, a son Joshua and one grandson Nash.
